Women in Asia Conference 2021: Fashioning Gender in Asia
Hosted by La Trobe University in affiliation with Asian Studies Association of Australia over four days, ‘Fashioning Gender in Asia’ is the 13th Women in Asia Conference expanding on gender research in the region. The conference discusses the intersections among gender, sexuality, culture, citizenship, technology and more in Asia across five streams: ‘Fashioning the Body’, ‘Borders Frayed/Reinforced’, ‘Stitched Together’, ‘Digital Tapestries’ and ‘Materialities’.

Ornamental · 厳 (xiāng): Artist Talk
Yeo Workshop presents an artist talk in accompaniment to the group exhibition, ’Ornamental · 厳 (xiāng)’. Featuring Southeast Asian artists Quyhn Dong, Santi Wangchuan, Lizzie Wee, Shayne Phua and Stephanie Jane Burt, it is an invitation back to the physical experience of art, where decorative and aesthetic objects become critical materials that dissect domestic, cultural and political constructs. The talk will offer insights into the various ways in which the artists have turned ornate objects into inspirations for social commentary.

Singapore Writers Festival 2021
One of Asia’s premier literary events since 1986, the 24th edition of the Singapore Writers Festival explores the complicated relationship between guilt and pleasure. The hybrid festival packs an exciting line-up, including fashion-related programmes such as ‘Fashion For Good’, which examines sustainable practices in fashion consumption. The all-women panel features Aqilah Zailan, Hafizah Ghazali, Rahkee Shah and Susannah Jaffer.

Jakarta Fashion Week 2022
The much-awaited fashion week in Indonesia is back in a fully digital format for the second year in a row, livestreaming runway shows that spotlight trendsetters in the Indonesia fashion world. The four-day affair will feature over 70 Indonesian designers and labels in 16 shows, alongside a Fashion Conversation which gathers practitioners and experts from the industry.

Online Artist Talks: Women in Film & Photography 2021 - Inheritance
In its sixth edition, Objectifs’ Women in Film and Photography gathers the works of female artists from Southeast Asia, South Asia and East Asia. Centered around the theme of ‘Inheritance’, the exhibition showcases a variety of image-making methodologies in portraying historical and present-day narratives of family ties, memories, identities and loss. Across four Zoom sessions, the artist talks carve out an intimate setting for each artist to go into greater depths of personal, yet familiar, stories.

The Ambassador is Spoiling Us: Gifts and Material Diplomacy at the Courts of Siam and France at the End of the Seventeenth Century
As part of ACMtalks at the Asian Civilisations Museum in Singapore, this webinar invited Giorgio Riello, Professor of Global History and Culture at the University of Warwick, United Kingdom, and Conan Cheong, Assistant Curator, Southeast Asian Art at ACM, to discuss about ambassadorial gift exchanges between the Siamese and the French during the pre-modern period (c.1400-1800). The session examined the act of gifting beyond diplomacy and observes the agency of other actors such as the ambassadors, Jesuits, merchants and adventurers.
