Could you introduce yourself and how you would like people to refer to you by?

My name is Beverly B., but you can call me Bev or B for short. I am the founder of BEV C multi-label store and the fashion designer for BEV C. I am also a stylist and image consultant.

How did you enter the fashion industry? What was the motivation to do so?

Like a bouncing ball, I was always jumping into different roles—I was once a primary school teacher, makeup artist, hair stylist. I have run a vintage store (TGND), hosted themed parties, and worked as a stylist. Eventually, I discovered my natural affinity for fashion, so I decided to dive into it. I love the freshness and creativity of the industry; it keeps me inspired!

Could you give the background story of how BEV C came to be?

I did not have a formal fashion education. It all began with remaking, deconstructing and reassembling ready-made clothing. I spent years honing my skills with master tailors in our locality. Then one day, I woke up with the idea of launching my own brand, and now, 11 years later, BEV C has grown into what it is today!

What do you look for when stocking independent designers?

Our motto, “Own Your Style or Stay Naked,” says it all. BEV C celebrates individuality, encouraging customers to mix and match pieces that reflect their unique style. We focus on genuine, independent designers, particularly local and Southeast Asian brands.

What are some of your highlights for this season?

Our focus this season is on wearable pieces, asymmetry, and, as always, embracing “own your style.”

In operating your own brand and multi-label store, could you identify some ups and downs that have shaped how you work today?

Running BEV C has been such a rewarding journey, watching it grow from our namesake brand into a multi-label store that showcases some of the coolest independent designers around. It is amazing to see customers connect with niche brands and celebrate their unique designs. It also feels great to create a platform for designers from Malaysia and Southeast Asia.

Of course, balancing BEV C’s identity while highlighting each designer’s brand can be tricky. I am constantly moving between creative ideas, running the shop, and making sure customers are happy. It is definitely a balancing act, but I have learned the importance of being flexible and having a strong team by my side. I’m really grateful for them—they make it all possible!

Could you describe a typical day for you?

A typical day is a blend of personal and professional rituals. I start with some stretching to wake up and set the tone, then I get into the groove with music. Cuddling with my cat is non-negotiable—she keeps me grounded! After that, I dive into brainstorming ideas for BEV C. I fit in a solid workout to keep energized, and I love to kick back with a refreshing drink at the end of the day. My goal is to finish off with a clear mind, ready for a restful night.

BEV C is located at 54, Jalan Tan Hiok Nee, 80000 Johor Bahru, Johor Malaysia. Keep up to date with BEV C on Instagram @bevc_multilabel.
